How voyage cost is calculated
Voyage cost estimation combines steaming time with daily fuel burn and fixed port charges. The result feeds directly into TCE calculations and fixture negotiations:
- Sea days = distance (nm) / (speed (kn) x 24)
- Bunker cost = sea days x daily consumption (MT/day) x bunker price (USD/MT)
- Subtotal = bunker cost + port and canal costs
- Commission amount = subtotal x commission % / 100 (when commission is provided)
- Total voyage cost = subtotal + commission amount
Note that this calculator covers the sea passage only. Port consumption, hire for waiting time, and deviation costs should be added separately. For a full TCE, combine this with gross freight using the TCE calculator.
